Baptism

baptismChrist Jesus begins his public life after having himself baptized by St. John the Baptist in the Jordan. After his resurrection Christ gives this mission to his apostles: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

Parents expecting to baptize their child are asked to contact one of the deacons or priests of the parish to make arrangements. They can do this by calling the parish office. Keep in mind that parents must attend a class on the sacrament of Baptism if this is the first child they are having baptized or if it has been some time since their last child was baptized. Church law has requirements for sponsors of Baptism (godparents) and the parents of the child to be baptized should speak with the deacon or priest before choosing sponsors/godparents to determine their eligibility.
