The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bridgeton, New Jersey has had a long and illustrious history. For this newsletter, the focus will be on the pastors who have faithfully served the Church of the Immaculate Conception that has worshipped for more than a century. The history of Catholicism in Bridgeton goes way back before the Revolutionary War (circa 1771 and earlier), but in this case, we will “fast-forward” to 1864, a year after the small Catholic community of Bridgeton became a mission of Millville. From June 16, 1864, Rev. Martin I. Gesner of Millville began to attend Bridgeton Catholics. The list of pastors of Immaculate Conception Church begins in 1864 because that was the year when the first Roman Catholic Church was built in Bridgeton, under the supervision of Fr. Gesner. After the departure of Fr. Gesner, the foundations were laid for the blossoming of the new parish, as his successors came and went, each one of them contributed their own effort for the good of the parish. We now present the following list of pastors with their respective dates at Immaculate and some of their names are highlighted with a significant event in the history of Immaculate Conception Church. This list of pastors serves as proof of the longevity of the Catholic Church in Bridgeton. With the Lord’s blessings, may this list gain more names in the years to come…

La Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción en Bridgeton, Nueva Jersey ha tenido una historia larga e ilustre. Para este boletín informativo, nos enfocaremos en los párrocos que han servido fielmente a la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción que ha alabado a Dios por más de un siglo. La historia del catolicismo en Bridgeton empieza antes de la guerra Revolucionaria (circa 1771 y anteriormente), pero en este caso vamos a adelantarnos hasta 1864, un año después de que la pequeña comunidad católica se convirtió en misión de Millville. Desde el 16 de junio de 1864, el padre Martin I. Gesner de Millville empezó a atender a los católicos en Bridgeton. La lista de párrocos de la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción se inicia en 1864 porque fue en ese año cuando se erigió la primera iglesia católica romana en Bridgeton, bajo la supervisión del padre Gesner. Después de la partida del padre Gesner, los cimientos ya estaban puestos para el desarrollo de la nueva parroquia, ya que sus sucesores venían y se iban, cada uno contribuyó su propio esfuerzo para el bien de la parroquia. Ahora les presentamos la lista de párrocos con sus fechas respectivas de su estancia en la Inmaculada y algunos de sus nombres tienen descripciones de eventos destacados en la historia de la Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción. Esta lista de párrocos es una prueba de la longevidad de la iglesia católica en Bridgeton. Que esta lista siga creciendo con más nombres al pasar de los años con las bendiciones del Señor…
